Telephone Preference Service (TPS) | LexisNexis Risk Solutions UK

Telephone Preference Service

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is an opt-out register where UK consumers may list their preference not to receive unsolicited telephone calls from companies and organisations – registration is free of charge.

Companies and organisations have a legal obligation not to make unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to persons registered with the Telephone Preference Service. The undertaking is endorsed by The Privacy and Electronic Regulations 2003 and the legislation is enforced by the Information Commissioners Office.

Aside from legal requirements, it makes good business sense to use only prospect data that has been screened against the TPS list. Unsolicited calls made to people registered with the Telephone Preference Service are not only a waste of time and money, but will leave the recipient with a negative view of the company calling.
